The wedding gift
Ray’s wedding had gone off without a hitch. everyone seemed to have had a good time. a few people had too good of a time; they went home with designated drivers. all evening, the gift table remained unguarded. who would steal anything, ray thought. he had never heard of such a thing happening at a wedding. but his best friend aaron said there was a first time for everything. he strolled out regularly from the inside festivities to check on the gift table, making sure no one suspicious was hanging around it.
Ray and julia went on a 3-week honeymoon to italy right after the wedding. when they got back, they opened all the gifts and sent out thank you notes. but there was one problem. a married couple that used to be good friends had apparently given nothing. this surprised julia, because walt and mary said they were thrilled to be invited. and, they actually seemed to have had a great time at the wedding. frankly, ray didn’t even care if they hadn’t given a gift. he just needed to know whether to send a thank you note. ray called aaron. aaron said maybe walt had left an envelope on the gift table like aaron had. “yes, but we got your envelope with the cash inside,” ray said.
“Maybe my envelope looked too thin, and some thief thought walt’s envelope looked nice and fat.”
Aaron asked ray if he had looked everywhere for walt’s gift. had he called up the wedding site to see if anything had been left behind? ray said that he had looked everywhere and made a lot of calls that were fruitless.
Ray didn’t know what to do. if he sent walt and mary a thank you note for a gift they hadn’t given, they would be insulted. if he didn’t send them a thank you note for a gift they had given, they would be insulted.

hello,everyone.it is my great hornor and pleasure to share my movie preferance with you. as a movie fan, i have watched numbers of movies both domestic and abroad. maybe you are curious about which one is the most favourate among them. actually, it is hard for me to tell the best,because each prominent film has its characteristics. some of them are humorous to make you laugh, some are driving you burst to tears.
but it is indeed impressive to me to review the utmost disliked film-----"hero" which is directed by zhang yimou, in . although this film show numourous famous filmstars, but you can tell nothing more than its great sceens. what worse, the whole movie just tell a story of the failure assassinate the emperor of qin dynasty. it is hollow on the theme and mindlein the view of narrator. it is a not-uncommon phenomenon which is arising in china movie market. i think it is really a shame to invest so much money to creat a film about nothing.

As the song goes “ My future isn’t a dream .” I love the song which brings me heart when singing it every time . I believe that all our dreams can come true if we have nerve to pursue them .When I was young my mother always asked me what I would be in the future . Sometimes I found it very hard to give a certain answer . “ I want to be a doctor .” “ I want to be a teacher .” and “ I ’d like to be a scientist !” Many of these answers are perhaps very childish . But I never think they are far away .
How time flies! Who is able to give a set to his future ? I know clearly that those high buildings are based on solid foundation . As a student , I should have a thinking aim , and study hard . With the mixture of romance and imagination, the girl who likes daydreaming appears to be here. Martin Luther King had his big dream that is to liberate his Negro brothers, and I have my small daydreams. But we share something in common which is that we all desire for a bright future. With my love for delicious food, I always daydreamed of many goodies being severed to me. Although I awoke every time without having a taste at those goodies, these interesting experience have relaxed my brain, and the hope for a bright future has encouraged me to be more diligent to realize my daydreams. The necessary element romance has helped me to have more fun in my daily life and get closer to the beautiful nature. The element imagination has helped me to be more creative in my study and daily life.
But daydreams need a limit. I only allows myself to daydream at the right time and for certain times for fear that I would get too far from the real life or will be too lazy to work hard lost in those remote daydreams.

im still thinking about his words, and theyve changed the weeds in the garden. im spending more time with my family and friends and letime in committee meetings. whenever possible, life should be a pattern of experience to savour, not endure. im trying to recognize these moment now and cherish them.
im not saving anything; we use our good china and crystal for every special. event such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, the first camellia blossom… i wear my good blazer to the market if i feel like it. my theory is if i look prosperous, i can shell out $28. 49 for one small bag of groceries without wincing. im not saving my good perfume for special parties; clerks in hardware stores and tellers in banks have noses that function as well as my party going friends.
someday and one of these days are losing their grip on my vocabulary. if its worth seeing or hearing or doing, i want to see and hear and do it now. im not sure what my sister wouldve done had she know that she wouldnt be here for the tomorrow we all take for granted.
i think she would have called family members and a few close friends. she might have called a few former friends to apologize, and mend fences for past squabbles. i like to think she would have gone out for a chinese dinner, her favorite food. im guessing. ill never know.
its those little things left undone that would make me angry if i knew that my hours were limited. angry because i put off seeing good friends whom i was going to get in touch with someday. angry because i hadnt written certain letters that i intended to write one of these days. angry and sorry that i didnt tell my husband and daughter often enough how much i truly love them.
im trying very hard not to put off, hold back, or save anything that would add laughter and luster to our lives. and every morning when i open my eyes, i tell myself that every day, every minute, every breath truly, is... a gift from god.

It was noon on Friday. Friday was wash day, Kerry’s least favorite day. Doing the wash was such a pain. He had to gather together all the dirty clothes. He had to turn the shirts and slacks inside out to save wear and tear on the outside of the shirts and slacks. He had to empty all the junk out of all the pockets of his clothes.
Then he had to find quarters for each load of wash—four for the washer and three for the dryer. It’d be so nice to have a weekly maid, like his downstairs neighbor. He put laundry soap and quarters into the washer, and set it at Warm Temperature and Regular Wash. A few minutes later, it was full of soapy water. He stuffed in half of the dirty clothes. This was going to be a two-load day.
He placed the half-full basket on top of the churning washer. He shut the laundry room door and walked back upstairs. He set his electronic timer to 35 minutes. earlier today, we heard the beginning of the preamble to the constitution of the united states: "we, the people." it's a very eloquent beginning. but when that document was completed on the seventeenth of september in 1787, i was not included in that "we, the people." i felt somehow for many years that george washington and alexander hamilton just left me out by mistake. but through the process of amendment, interpretation, and court decision, i have finally been included in "we, the people."
today i am an inquisitor. an hyperbole would not be fictional and would not overstate the solemnness that i feel right now. my faith in the constitution is whole; it is complete; it is total. and i am not going to sit here and be an idle spectator to the diminution, the subversion, the destruction, of the constitution.

"the subjects of its jurisdiction are those offenses which proceed from the misconduct of public men."¹ and that's what we're talking about. in other words, [the jurisdiction comes] from the abuse or violation of some public trust.
it is wrong, i suggest, it is a misreading of the constitution for any member here to assert that for a member to vote for an article of impeachment means that that member must be convinced that the president should be removed from office. the constitution doesn't say that. the powers relating to impeachment are an essential check in the hands of the body of the legislature against and upon the encroachments of the executive. the division between the two branches of the legislature, the house and the senate, assigning to the one the right to accuse and to the other the right to judge, the framers of this constitution were very astute. they did not make the accusers and the judgers -- and the judges the same person.
we know the nature of impeachment. we've been talking about it awhile now. it is chiefly designed for the president and his high ministers to somehow be called into account. it is designed to "bridle" the executive if he engages in excesses. "it is designed as a method of national inquest into the conduct of public men."² the framers confided in the congress the power if need be, to remove the president in order to strike a delicate balance between a president swollen with power and grown tyrannical, and preservation of the independence of the executive.
the nature of impeachment: a narrowly channeled exception to the separation-of-powers maxim. the federal convention of 1787 said that. it limited impeachment to high crimes and misdemeanors and discounted and opposed the term "maladministration." "it is to be used only for great misdemeanors," so it was said in the north carolina ratification convention. and in the virginia ratification convention: "we do not trust our liberty to a particular branch. we need one branch to check the other."

"prosecutions of impeachments will seldom fail to agitate the passions of the whole community," said hamilton in the federalist papers, number 65.
