Once upon a time, in a beautiful countryside, a mother duck was sitting on her eggs. She was very excited because she was expecting her little ducklings to hatch.
One by one, the eggs cracked open, and out came the cutest little ducklings. They were all yellow and fluffy. But there was one egg that was much bigger than the others, and it took a long time to hatch.
Finally, the big egg opened, and out came a strange-looking duckling. He was grey and not as pretty as his brothers and sisters. The other ducklings made fun of him and called him ugly. They didnt want to play with him and often pecked at him.
The poor ugly duckling felt very sad and lonely. He tried to fit in, but no matter what he did, the others still treated him badly. So he decided to leave and find a new place where he might be accepted.
He walked and walked, through forests and over fields. He met many animals along the way, but they all either ignored him or laughed at his appearance.
As the seasons changed, the ugly duckling grew bigger. One day, he came to a beautiful pond. There were some swans swimming gracefully on the water. He was amazed by their beauty and felt a little envious.
Suddenly, he looked at his own reflection in the water and was astonished. He realized that he had grown into a beautiful swan himself. His feathers were white and shiny, and his neck was long and elegant.
The other swans welcomed him, and he finally found a place where he belonged. The animals who had once made fun of him now looked at him with admiration.
And from that day on, the ugly duckling lived happily ever after, knowing that true beauty comes from within and that everyone has their own special journey to discover their true selves.
Once there were three baby owls:
Sarah and Percy and Bill.
Sarah、Percy和Bill。
They lived in a hole in the trunk of a tree with their owl mother.
The hole had twigs and leaves and owl feathers in it.
It was their house.
One night they woke up and their Owl Mother was GONE.
"Where's Mommy?" asked Sarah.
"Oh my goodness!" said Percy.
"I want my mummy!" said Bill.
The baby owls thought (all owls think a lot )-
"I think she's gone hunting," said Sarah.
"To get us our food!" said Percy.
"I want my mummy!" said Bill.
But their Owl Mother didn’t come.
The baby owls came out of their house and they sat on the tree and waited.
A big branch for Sarah,a small branch for Percy, and an old piece of ivy for Bill.
"She'll be back," saidSarah.
"Back soon!" said Percy.
"I want my mummy!" said Bill.
It was dark in the wood and they have to be brave, for things moved all around them.
"She’ll bring us mice and things that are nice." said Sarah.
"I suppose so!" said Percy.
"I want my mummy!" said Bill.
They sat and they thought(all owls think a lot)-
"I think we should all sit on my branch." said Sarah.
And they did, all three together.
"Suppose she got lost." said Sarah.
"Or a fox got her!" said Percy.
"I want my mummy!" said Bill.
And the baby owls closed their owl eyes and wished their Owl Mother would come.
AND SHE CAME.
Soft and silent, she swooped through the trees to Sarah and Percy and Bill.
"Mummy!" they cried,
and they flapped and they danced, and they bounced up and down on their branch.
"WHAT’S ALL THE FUSS?" their Owl Mother asked.
"You knew I’d come back."
The baby owls thought(all owls think a lot)-
"I knew it." said Sarah.
"And I knew it!" said Percy.
"I love my mummy!" said Bill.
Building the third storey without the first two
A long time ago, there was a rich man whose foolishness knew no bounds(无限).
The fool visited another rich man's house and saw a magnificent three-storeyed building which was tall, spacious and bright. He was extremely envious and said to himself, "my wealth is no less than his. Why haven't I got a house like this?"
He immediately called in a carpenter. "Did you build that house?" He inquired, "Yes, indeed," answered the carpenter, whereupon he ordered a similar house be built for him.
The carpenter started to clear the ground and pile up mud bricks, When the fool saw the carpenter do this, he was puzzled and asked, "What kind of a house are you going to build?" "A three-storeyed house," came the reply. "I don't want the first and second storeys. Build the top storey first." "That simply cannot be done," the carpenter argued. "Whoever heard of building the second storey without first constructing the ground storey, and without the second storey, how can you build the third?"
But the fool insisted, "I don't need the first two storeys. You must build only the top storey for me."
My uncle has two dogs. One is big and the other is small. He likes them very much.
One day, Mr. Smith came to visit him. When the friend saw two holes in the door, a large hole and a small hole, he was surprised and said, ;My dear friend, why are there two holes in your door?; ;Let my dogs come in and come out, of course,; Mr. Smith asked. ;But why are there two holes? One is enough!; ;But how can the big dog go through the small hole?; my uncle said.
Sometimes a clever man may make such mistakes.
Very Pleased to Meet You
During World War II, a lot of young women in Britain were in the army. Joan Phillips was one
of them. She worked in a big camp, and of course met a lot of men, officers and soldiers.
One evening she met Captain Humphreys at a dance. He said to her, "I‘m going abroad
tomorrow, but I‘d be very happy if we could write to each other." Joan agreed, and they wrote for several months.
Then his letters stopped, but she received one from another officer, telling her that he had been wounded and was in a certain army hospital in England.
Joan went there and said to the matron, "I‘ve come to visit Captain Humphreys."
"Only relatives are allowed to visit patients here," the matron said.
"Oh, that‘s all right," answered Joan. "I‘m his sister."
"I‘m very pleased to meet you," the matron said, "I‘m his mother!"

A Woodman came into a forest to ask the Trees to give him a handle for Ax. It seemed so modest a request that the principal tree at once aGREed to it, and it was settled among them that the plain, homely Ash should furnish what was wanted.
No sooner had the Woodman fitted the staff to his purpose ,than he began laying about him on all side. felling the whole matter too late, whispered to the Cedar: "the first concession has lost all ;if we has not a sacrificed our humble neighbor, we might have yet stood for ages ourselves."
A man carves an idol and takes it to the fair. No one buys it, so he begins to shout in order to canvass the customer.
He says that this idol can bring in wealth and good luck. One man says to the seller, "Hello, My friend, if this is so, you should have the advantages that the idol can bring, why do you want to sell it?" The seller says, "What I want is that I can get cash in at once. The profit from the idol is so slow."
This story means: God will never respect people who make a profit by hook or crook.
Warning
Several weeks after our son began his freshman year at Alma College in Michigan, my
husband and I decided to visit him. I was careful to call him a few days in advance to
"warn" him that we would be coming. When we arrived at the dorm, however, I was taken
aback by the disarray of his room. "Forgot we were coming, didn‘t you?" I teased.
"Are you kidding?" he replied, "Why else would I have bothered to clean?"

A Fox, just at the time of the vintage, stole into a vine-yard where the ripe sunny Grapes were trellised up on high in most tempting show.
He made many a spring and a jump after the luscious prize, but, failing in all his attempts, he muttered as he retreated:"Well what does it matter! The Grapes are sour!"
A wild boar was sharpening his tusks against a tree one day when a fox came by. "What are you doing that for?" asked the fox. "There are no hunters around.Everything looks very peaceful to me."
"Quite true,"said the boar,"but when the hunter does e with his dogs I shall be too busy running away to have time for this. So let me sharpen my tusks while I can." Be prepared.

West Point
My father, brother and I visited West Point to see a football game between Army and
Boston College. Taking a stroll before kickoff, we met many cadets in neatly pressed
uniforms. Several visting fans asked the recruits if they would pose for photographs, "to
show our son what to expect if he should attend West Point."
One middle-aged couple approached a very attractive female cadet and asked her to
pose for a picture. They explained, "We want to show our son what he missed by not
coming to West Point."
A man once had four sons who never stopped quarrelling with one another. He was always telling them how much easier life would be if they worked together but they took absolutely no notice of him. One day he decided to show them what he meant.
He called all the sons together and put a tightly tied bundle of sticks on the floor in front of them.
"Can you break that ? " he asked the youngest son. The boy put his knee on the bundle but though he pressed and pulled with his arms he could not bend the wood.
The father asked each son in turn to try to break the bundle, but none of them could do it . Then he untied the string and scattered the sticks.
" Now try, " he said . The boys broke the sticks easily in their hands.
"Do you see what I mean ?" asked the father. "if only you stand together no one can hurt you . If you all disagree the whole time and insist on going your separate ways, the first enemy you meet will be able to destroy you. " United we stand divided we fall.
Better late than never
Once upon a time, someone raised a sheep. One morning, he found a sheep missing. After careful examination, he found that the sheepfold had broken a hole. At night, the wolf came in and took one of the sheep. The neighbour advised him, "Repair the sheepfold and plug the hole!" The man refused to accept the advice and answered, "What's the sheep doing when they've lost it?"
The next morning, he found another sheep missing. Originally, the wolf came in from the hole and took a sheep. He regretted that he had not listened to his neighbour's advice, so he quickly blocked the hole and repaired the sheepfold. Since then, wolves can no longer get into the sheepfold to catch sheep.
The story tells us: make a mistake, suffer setbacks, it is a common phenomenon. As long as can learn seriously, to take remedial measures in time, can avoid continue to make mistakes, suffer greater losses.

Ground Rules
One of my favorite teachers at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau
was known of his droll sense of humor. Explaining his ground rules to one freshman class,
he said, "Now I know my lectures can often be dry and boring, so I don‘t mind if you

desk to make sure they‘re still running."

Among the outstanding figures of Chinese history, famous either for their intelligence or treachery, Cao Cao is one of the foremost.
One summer, Cao Cao was leading his troops in a punitive expedition against Zhang Xiu. It was extraordinarily hot. The burning sun was like a fire, and the sky was cloudless. The soldiers were walking on the winding mountain paths. The dense forest and the hot rocks exposed to the sun on both sides of the paths made the soldiers feel suffocated. By noontime the soldiers' clothes were wet through with sweat, and the marching speed slowed down. Some solders of weak physique even fainted on the roadside.
Seeing that the marching speed was slower and slower, Cao Cao was very worried because he feared that he might bungle the chance of winning the battle. But how could they quicken their speed? Cao Cao at once callde the guide and asked him on the quiet whether there was a source of water nearby.
The guide shook his head, saying that the spring water was on the other side of the mountain, which was very far to have to make a detour to reach. Cao Cao realized that time didn't permit them to make such a detour. After thinking for a moment, he said to the guide, "Keep quiet. I'll find a way out." He knew that it would be to no avail to order his troops to quicken the steps. He had a brain wave and found a good solution. He spurred his horse and came to the head of the column. Pointing his horsewhip to the front, Cao Cao said, "Soldiers, I know there is a big forest of plums ahead. The plums there are both big and delicious. let's hurry along, and we will reach the forest of plums after bypassing this hill."
When the solders heard this, they immediately slobbered. Picturing in their minds the sweet and sour flavour of the plums, the soldiers felt as if they were actually eating the plums, the soldiers felt as if they were actually eating the plums themselves. The morale greatly boosted, the soldiers quickened their steps a great deal automatically.

Best Reward
A naval officer fell overboard. He was rescued by a deck hand. The officer asked how

"I had another bad dream," she told her fiancé. "It was about you again. You and your ex-girlfriend were kissing. I yelled at you to stop it. You looked right at me, and then you laughed at me! She laughed, too. Then you both went back to kissing. I tried not to watch, but when I covered my eyes, something pulled my hands away. I tried to leave, but my feet were glued to the ground. Finally, I woke up. Of course, it was very difficult to get back to sleep.
"I had to drive home from Las Vegas this morning. It's a wonder I didn't crash 50 times. Instead of seeing traffic in front of me, all I saw was you and her. I can't take any more dreams like this. We're going to have to break up. We can be friends, but just friends. That way, I won't be jealous anymore, and I won't have these bad dreams anymore."
"Why didn't you call me up and tell me about your dream?" he asked. "They say that the more you talk about bad dreams, the sooner you'll stop having them."
She disagreed. She thought that the only solution was to break up and be just friends. She loved him, but these dreams had become so frequent that she was actually afraid to go to sleep. She was losing weight and having stomachaches from the stress.
He didn't know what to do. He wanted her to have pleasant dreams. He wanted her to have a life without
He wanted her to be his wife. This was it, she repeated; if she had just one more bad dream, they were through. He squeezed her hand, but said nothing.

IN the high-road which led through a wood stood a solitary farm-house; the road, in fact, ranright through its yard. The sun was shining and all the windows were open; within the housepeople were very busy. In the yard, in an arbour formed by lilac bushes in full bloom, stood anopen coffin; thither they had carried a dead man, who was to be buried that very shed a tear over him; his face was covered over with a white cloth, under his head theyhad placed a large thick book, the leaves of which consisted of folded sheets of blotting-paper,and withered flowers lay between them; it was the herbarium which he had gathered in variousplaces and was to be buried with him, according to his own wish.
Every one of the flowers in itwas connected with some chapter of his life. "Who is the dead man?" we asked. "The oldstudent," was the reply. "They say that he was once an energetic young man, that he studiedthe dead languages, and sang and even composed many songs; then something hadhappened to him, and in consequence of this he gave himself up to drink, body and mind. When at last he had ruined his health, they brought him into the country, where someone paidfor his board and residence. He was gentle as a child as long as the sullen mood did not comeover him;儿童英语童话故事带翻译
but when it came he was fierce, became as strong as a giant, and ran about in thewood like a chased deer. But when we succeeded in bringing him home, and prevailed upon himto open the book with the dried-up plants in it, he would sometimes sit for a whole day lookingat this or that plant, while frequently the tears rolled over his cheeks. God knows what was inhis mind; but he requested us to put the book into his coffin, and now he lies there. In a littlewhile the lid will be placed upon the coffin, and he will have sweet rest in the grave!" The clothwhich covered his face was lifted up;
the dead mans face expressed peace- a sunbeam fellupon it. A swallow flew with the swiftness of an arrow into the arbour, turning in its flight, and twittered over the dead mans head. What a strange feeling it is- surely we all know it- tolook through old letters of our young days; a different life rises up out of the past, as it were, with all its hopes and sorrows. How many of the people with whom in those days we used to beon intimate terms appear to us as if dead, and yet they are still alive- only we have notthought of them for such a long time, whom we imagined we should retain in our memories forever, and share every joy and sorrow with them. The withered oak leaf in the book here recalledthe friend, the schoolfellow, who was to be his friend for life.
He fixed the leaf to the studentscap in the green wood, when they vowed eternal friendship. Where does he dwell now? The leafis kept, but the friendship does no longer exist. Here is a foreign hothouse plant, too tender forthe gardens of the North. It is almost as if its leaves still smelt sweet! She gave it to him out ofher own garden- a noblemans daughter. Here is a water-lily that he had plucked himself, andwatered with salt tears- a lily of sweet water.
And here is a nettle: what may its leaves tell us?What might he have thought when he plucked and kept it? Here is a little snowdrop out of thesolitary wood;
here is an evergreen from the flower-pot at the tavern; and here is a simpleblade of grass. The lilac bends its fresh fragrant flowers over the dead mans head; theswallow passes again- "twit, twit;" now the men come with hammer and nails, the lid isplaced over the dead man, while his head rests on the dumb book- so long cherished, nowclosed for ever!
At a sales conference, the manager of a company in the United States asked the attendees to stand up and see what was under his seat. As a result, everyone found money on their chairs, picked up at least one coin, and got one hundred dollars at most. The manager said: "all this money for you, but do you know why?" No one can guess why.
So the manager of a word to say, I just want to tell you a most easily ignored you even forget the truth: "sit still never earn money."
We often complain about the opportunity always pass you by. In fact, when you do not know the author and the wise, decide on what path to follow, this time has been resolutely stand up, seize the opportunity, only in this way, only in the opportunity comes, so as not to miss at a loss what to do. "Sit still never earn money."
Very Pleased to Meet You
During World War II, a lot of young women in Britain were in the army. Joan Phillips was one of them. She worked in a big camp, and of course met a lot of men, officers and soldiers.
One evening she met Captain Humphreys at a dance. He said to her, "I‘m going abroad tomorrow, but I‘d be very happy if we could write to each other." Joan agreed, and they wrote for several months.
The miser and his gold Once upon a time there was a miser. He hid his gold under a tree. Every week he used to dig it up.
One night a robber stole all the gold. When the miser came again, he found nothing but an empty hole.
He was surprised, and then burst into the neighbors gathered around him.
He told them how he used to come and visit his gold. "Did you ever take any broke them easily. He then addressed them in these words: "My sons, if you are of one mind, and unite to assist each other, you will be as this faggot, uninjured by all the attempts of your enemies; but if you are divided among yourselves, you will be broken as easily as these sticks.
